A note from the founder of BookIQ

Hi, I'm Mike Jin, the founder of BookIQ.

I've always been hungry to learn — new skills, new ideas, new fields I knew nothing about.

But I'm a slow reader. While everyone else seemed to fly through books, I'd get stuck rereading the same page, and the things I most wanted to understand stayed just out of reach.

So I started talking through what I read — asking questions out loud, explaining ideas back to myself, and checking whether I'd actually understood them.

That's why I built BookIQ: to turn any book into a conversation. Instead of reading passively, you upload a PDF and ask it questions, get answers, and test your understanding out loud, in your own words.

Today BookIQ helps readers everywhere learn faster, remember more, and finally keep up with their own curiosity.

Thank you for using BookIQ.

FAQ

What is BookIQ?

BookIQ turns any book into a conversation. You upload a PDF and talk to it with a natural AI voice — ask questions, get answers, and understand more of what you read. Instead of reading or listening passively, you have a real back-and-forth conversation with your book.

Is BookIQ AI powered?

Yes. BookIQ uses AI on every step: it analyzes your uploaded PDF, retrieves the most relevant passages when you ask something (a technique called retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG), and answers you out loud in a natural AI voice. Your questions are answered using the actual text of your book, not generic internet knowledge.

Can I ask the AI voice questions to test my understanding of a book?

Absolutely. You can ask the AI to quiz you, explain a concept you didn't follow, summarize a chapter, or clarify an argument — all by voice. It's one of the best ways to check comprehension and remember more, since you're actively recalling and discussing instead of re-reading.

How does talking to a book actually work?

Three steps: (1) upload your PDF, (2) BookIQ analyzes and indexes the content, and (3) you start a voice conversation. When you ask a question, BookIQ finds the relevant passages in your book and the AI answers you in a natural spoken voice.

What kind of files can I upload?

BookIQ supports PDF files up to 50MB. You can upload textbooks, non-fiction, research papers, reports, or any book you have as a PDF.

What AI voices are available?

You can choose from several natural AI voices — including Emma (bright & approachable), Ava (natural & expressive), Andrew (warm & conversational), and Brandon (deep & grounded). Multilingual voices are also available.

Is BookIQ free to use?

You can start with a free 7-day trial (no commitment) that includes 3 books and 20 minutes of voice conversation. Paid plans add more books, more monthly voice minutes, longer sessions, and saved conversation history.

Is my data and uploaded book safe?

Yes. Your PDFs are parsed privately in your own browser and stored in secure cloud storage tied to your account. Sign-in is handled through Clerk, and your books are only accessible to you.

How is BookIQ different from a regular audiobook or text-to-speech app?

A text-to-speech app reads a book at you. BookIQ lets you have a two-way conversation with it — ask questions, get clarification, and dig into ideas in real time. It's interactive, not just playback.

Do I need to install anything?

No. BookIQ runs in your web browser. Just sign in, upload a PDF, and start talking — nothing to download or install.
